The sub-workshop will review the efforts made by both governments and private sector to produce cleaner fuels. Several countries in Asia are either in the process to produce cleaner fuels or have almost completed such a strategy. Oil companies have started to integrate cleaner fuels in their business model. Now that efforts to produce cleaner fuels are getting underway in Asia there is an increased interest in harmonization of fuel and vehicle emission standards in Asia. At the same time it appears that the production of cleaner fuels will be accompanied by a rationalization of the industry, meaning that the number of refineries will decrease.
