ABSTRACT

Vehicle emission reduction strategy could be achieve through program called Inspection and Maintenance (I & M), which is since 2 years ago (2002) has been introduce at Jakarta registered vehicle as well operate at Jakarta. As everybody knew, that getting the Emission reduction law isn’t easy way, takes years to be approved by Jakarta Parliament. So than the Jakarta City Administration introducing a new model of public participation known as "Gerakan Apresiasi Emisi Bersih" or in English means " Cleaner Emission Appreciation Task" which is involving more than 24 end destination of vehicle parking areas such as Malls, Universities, Industries, Offices. Their participation on the AEB Task is by giving various appreciations or bonuses for the vehicles entering their property or parking area as long as their emission level is not exceeding the Government max standard. This program has been launch by Mr. Sutiyoso Governor of Jakarta City at 25^th September 2002 together with I & M program involving more than 24 members and more than 50 registered workshops in Jakarta. More than 6,000 vehicles have been inspected and reduced their emission level meet the expected level, also request of membership are increasing. In order to maintain the sustainability of this program AEB establish 5 principal of activity as well working group which is ; Education, Pilot Project, Monitoring, Award & Punish and Feedback Working Group. AEB is being introduced to others city in Indonesia and being registered other city such as Bandung and Bali are willing to implement the similar program.
