ABSTRACT
For the last decade air pollution in Indonesia is the most popular issue especially in big cities where the primary source is motor vehicle emission. To raise public participation in dealing with the issue, MoE launched a program called "Emission Competition Among Institutions". The objective is to encourage society to take part in dealing with air pollution by controlling emission from private owned vehicle through institutional competition. The expected result is implementation of inspection and maintenance program. The Emission Competition Program is carried out in 5 (five) cities namely Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar. The participants involved 30 – 40 institutions per-city whereby each participant should provide a minimum of 20 vehicles to be measured. The evaluation is based on emission and age value. Results of the activity were announced and appreciations will be submitted in the form of award for the lowest emission and well-maintained vehicle. Responses from the public were positive revealed from questionnaires and media coverage.
