FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF ACID DEPOSITION MONITORING NETWORK IN EAST ASIA (EANET)

ABSTRACT

The Second Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG2) for Acid Deposition Monitoring (EANET) was held in October 2000. Major decisions included: the successful evaluation of the preparatory phase and decided to start the regular phase activities of the EANET from January 2001.The Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG5), held in November 2003 decided to establish a Working Group on Future Development (WGFD) of EANET. The Terms of Reference and Work Plan for WGFD to be approved by the Sixth Session of Intergovernmental Meeting on 7-8 November 2004 included: i) review the performance of the Secretariat and NC and submit the review report to the Intergovernmental Meeting; ii) review the financial reports of the Secretariat and NC since the start of the regular phase and recommend appropriate sizes of the budgets of EANET, based on the review results; iii) develop guidelines on the administration and financial management of Secretariat and Network Center; iv) carry out tasks in line with the decision on further financial arrangement as adopted at IG5; v) develop a 4-5 year medium term plan for EANET; and vi) consider the feasibility of a regional agreement on acid deposition through an analytical work on existing ones such as the ASEAN haze agreement. This paper describes the accomplishments, outcomes, and work plan for future development of EANET.
