ABSTRACT
Drawing heavily upon the experience of having implemented the UNCHS-UNDP- assisted Sustainable Chennai Project (SChP) in 1997-2000; Chennai is forging ahead with promotion of sustainable urban mobility (SUM). One of the three key environmental management issues taken up under the SChP was "Reduction of Traffic Congestion and Improving Air Quality in the Chennai Metropolitan Area The poster will review the three main components of the program: (i) Maximising existing infrastructure investment; (ii) Improving the modal share of transit systems and (iii) Improvement of Air Quality.
