The Urban Environmental Management (UEM) Field of Study provides graduate education to UEM specialists and managers, and implements application projects in the three environmental sub-sectors (air pollution, solid waste, and water and sanitation). The AIT-CIDA Partnership (2003-2008) SEA-UEMA project is involved in the improvement of urban environment by sharing sound UEM policies and practices in eight countries of the SEA region (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam). The project has been carrying out various activities that would result in positive impacts in the reduction of air pollution, albeit in a localized scenario. Based on its activities and experiences gained, SEA-UEMA project proposes to participate in the BAQ 2006 as a panel organizer with the following objectives.
Objectives
The primary objectives of participating in the BAQ 2006 by SEA-UEMA Project are based on its academic experience, research background and applications of various environmental projects and studies in the region. The specific objectives are:
1. To highlight the activities related to air quality management in its various application projects (three air pollution related demonstration projects and two action research);
2. To disseminate results of student research in air pollution monitoring and air environmental management; and
3. To understand the various air environmental management policies and practices through a larger dissemination forum of BAQ 2006.
Participants ADP and JAR partners, and SEA-UEMA network members; local Government Officials (particularly, policy makers and implementers, and planners); NGOs and CBOs; public relations and media personnel; Bilateral or multilateral donors/ financial institutions; corporate sector and other stakeholders; academics and researchers.
