The BAQ Organizing Committee would like to thank all the participants, sponsors, supporting organizations, and co-organizers that made last year's Better Air Quality workshop quite successful. View draft report from the BAQ 2006 reporting committee (MS Word)

The report is based on the evaluations submitted by the chairpersons of the different sessions, ‘interviews’ with participants during BAQ, and personal impressions of the reporting committee members. Main points for the evaluation were (1) scientific content of the sessions, (2) role of BAQ in advocacy for better air quality in the region, (3) its link to effective policy making, also in relation to the Governmental Meeting parallel to this workshop, (4) impressions from participants, (5) lessons learnt, (6) gaps in BAQ 2006, (7) organization of the conference, including venue, (8) behaviour of participants, and (9) the way forward for future BAQs.

Bus rapid transit systems offer effective solution for Asian cities

Congestion, pollution and the lack of an efficient public transport system in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, prompted Governor Sutiyoso to establish a US$49 million bus rapid transit (BRT) system in 2004.
