Institut Veolia Environnement (IVE), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), and Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relationships (IDDRI) announce the 3rd Future Environmental Trends Conference on "Energy, Environment, and Development - Analyzing Opportunities for Reducing Poverty", to be held during 14-16 December 2006 in Bangalore, India. The conference will focus on challenges for sustainable development that arise from the nexus between energy, environment, and poverty. It will provide an opportunity for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and the donor community to engage in constructive dialogue on possible solutions. It will attempt to identify an agenda for action and policy relevant research, particularly focusing on developing countries in Asia.
Conference Themes
The conference will have six themes that focus on the linkages between energy, environment, and development.
1. Energy - the "missing MDG"?
2. Sustainable lifestyles
3. Local dimensions of global environmental challenges
4. Globalization - forces of change
5. Technological leapfrogging
6. Revitalizing research and development

Call for papers
Submissions of paper abstracts are invited on the conference themes in the attached format. (The format can also be downloaded from http://www.teriin.org/events/images/applicationform.doc) All inquires and submissions must be made electronically to the Conference organizers at eed@teri.res.in
The last date for receiving applications has been extended to 15 August 2006
Selection of papers will be on the basis of scientific excellence, by an eminent Advisory Committee. Notification of acceptance will be received by 30 September 2006. Additional information including details about the conference arrangements, venue, and programme will be provided at that time to participants.
Funding support
There is limited funding for developing country participants whose papers are accepted. Decisions about funding will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis considering the relevance of work, and regional and thematic balance.
