Inspection and maintenance (In-use Vehicles)
Source: ENV

It is a legal offence for any person to use or permit the use of any smoky vehicle on the road (Clause 19 of the Environmental Pollution Control law).

Therefore, all vehicles in Singapore are subject to periodic, mandatory inspections to ensure that they comply with prescribed standards. In September 2001, the Chassis Dynamometer Smoke Test (CDST) was introduced to check for compliance.
