Asian Regional Haze: Vegetative Burning
Resources on regional haze related to vegetative burning in Asia.

1. Air Pollution Episode in Southeast Asia Generated by Vegetation Fires in Indonesia

This website provides information on the 1997-98haze episodes caused by forest burning in the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia

2. Integrated Fire Management Project, Indonesia

Wildfires in Indonesia are almost always human caused. A large percentage of all fires and the subsequent haze are resulting from the continued use of fire for agricultural land-clearing, large-scale forest conversions, and hunting. Indirect fire causes include land use conflicts, land speculation, and carelessness. Fire is the most economical and common tool used by all people to prepare the land. This site provides information on the IFFM program, ways to reduce smoke from burning and smoke management in Indonesia.
