INVITATION

Since 1991, a highly successful conference series CityTrans Asia has been organised for 5 presentations in Singapore to promote sound planning and practice in urban planning and traffic management. By having a strong focus on actual experience of cities around the world, with emphasis on case studies that have great application potential in Asia, the conference has emerged as one which is unique in its ability to attract major players in the field of urban planning and traffic management, and bring participants from the industry, government agencies, and tertiary research institutions.

It is of great significance that we are now initiating a parallel conference series CityTrans China, having the same unique format to be held in China. China is one of the fastest growing infrastructure investment markets in the world. Statistics show that economic losses caused by traffic congestion and accidents amount to 2 per cent of gross domestic product each year. Opportunities abound for investments in roads, road related services, railway operations, terminals, ports and provision of other infrastructure projects are bolstered by China's ascension to World Trade Organisation and winning of the Olympics Games bid. Hence, It is timely and fitting to organise CityTrans China 2004 against this backdrop of sustaining economic development and urbanisation.

This unique multi-disciplinary conference aims to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and experience on issues, challenges and solutions in the traffic, urban planning and infrastructure sectors.

The Conference Organising Committee invites you to share your experience and expertise with our distinguished delegates by presenting a paper at the conference. We welcome you to join us and look forward to your participation at this internationally acclaimed event.
