Air pollution emissions from motor vehicles is a major problem in Asia because of poor fuel quality, vehicle maintenance and inadequate emission control. Vehicle inpection and maintenance (I&M) programs are commonly found in Asian nations but many have limited effectiveness. Control of vehicle emissions will require a sustained effort to improve control technology, maintenance, fuel quality, I&M enforcement, traffic management and public awareness.
