Sustainable Urban Transport Project - Asia (SUTP-Asia)
Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technishe Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)

[top]

SUTP-Asia is a partnership between the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), CITYNET and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) which aims to help developing Asian cities achieve their sustainable transport goals, through the dissemination of information about international experience and targeted work with particular cities. Their main products are the Sourcebook on Sustainable Urban Transport for Policy Makers, as well as training courses and workshops on the topic of sustainable transport. Print and electronic resources are available from the web site at www.sutp.org. More information about the project is also available at http://www.sutp.org/newweb/aboutushome.htm.

General information dissemination activities include the updating and dissemination of GTZ’s Sustainable Urban Transport Sourcebook, translation of the Sourcebook into regional languages, maintenance of a project website, elaboration of online training resources, and participation in regional seminars.

City level information dissemination and technical assistance has been carried out in Bangkok (bus sector reform and pedestrian improvements in demonstration locations), Dhaka, and some Malaysian cities (scoping visits and a national seminar). Cooperation with other cities in Thailand is being developed as well. Seminars in Bangkok have covered Bus Rapid Transit, pedestrian planning, voluntary travel behaviour change, bus sector reform, and a major ‘Building a New City’ conference on sustainable transport on 30th January 2004. In 2005, The Project has undergone a redefinition of its plan of operations, including its web site and available resources.
