USEPA, USAID, the Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, held a Policy Makers Meeting on the INtegrated Environmental Strategies (IES) Program in Hyderabad, India.
The IES-India program is a co-benefits assessment program that identifies and analyzes clean energy policies and measures that reduce local air pollution, calculates the associated public health and economic value of the air quality improvements, and also quantifies the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Other key elements of the program include an education/outreach program targeting the private sector and the general public to help build support for implementation of cost-effective measures.
The meeting objectives are to solicit feedback from the key policy makers in India on the results of the co-benefits analysis, to improve project approaches and methodologies, and to recommend next steps.
EPTRI, with technical assistance from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, coordinated work with RITES and the Institute for Health Systems. Winrock International and CII developed the outreach and education programs.
