Abstract
This paper presents the output of an investigation of the U-turn scheme implemented by the Metro Manila Development Authority along a study area. Changes on perceived travel time of experienced jeepney drivers plying the arterial road section under investigation is used to assess traffic flow efficiency. The investigation also tackles the safety aspect using accident records obtained from the police. Before-and-after analysis is employed to ascertain the effects of the U-turn scheme on travel time and traffic safety. Vehicular conflict inherent with the U-turn traffic management scheme is discussed. The study includes a discussion on pedestrian’s perception related to access and safety with the U-turn scheme implementation.
