Abstract
Usually difficulty in breathing and chronic cough with/without wheezy chest are the early presentations of the effect of air pollution among children. Long term low level exposure to pollutants in the air depresses immune system of children and bio-aerosols (microscopic living organisms or fragments of living things) collected with dust particles and pollutants of air obviously put great pressure on the immune system of children. Frequent attacks of allergy, asthma and flue are some of the adverse health effects of bio-aerosol. Little data is available about the impact of air pollution on child health in the Dhaka City. But there is considerable evidence that the present level of atmospheric contaminants that exist in Dhaka are sufficient to cause discomfort or significant impairment of child health. If policy makers recognise the problem and move quickly e.g. as they have taken initiative of freeing fuel from lead to mitigate the sufferings of population including children with ambient lead intoxication then population of Dhaka will be able to breathe more clean air.
