NGV Global (10 May 2005) Myanmar, Yangon: Myanmar's natural gas vehicle programs are progressing, following the opening last week of the ninth CNG station of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise in Yangon and the delivery of 500 CNG conversion kits from Omnitek Engineering (USA).
Myanmar has estimated total natural gas reserves of around 2.4 6 trillion cubic metres and the government is using the natural gas vehicle programme to reduce expenditure on oil and reduce pollution. At least 11 CNG stations are to be established in the early stages of the program.
Another major milestone that the government hopes to achieve is the conversion of 5000 public buses to CNG. A total of1200 of the conversion kits are to be supplied within the next month by Omnitek, in partnership with Altenergy of India.
