Participants of the Regional Dialogue
The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) will co-host the 2nd Regional Dialogue of Air Quality Management Initiatives and Programs in Asia on 12 July 2005 at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit in Bangkok, Thailand. The event is organized following the consensus among participants of the First Regional Dialogue held in Bangkok last June 2004 on the need for continued coordination among international and regional organizations with AQM projects in Asia.
The 2nd Regional Dialogue aims to:
- Build support for AQM among regional environmental organizations, programs and initiatives;
- Explore the significance and potential role of urban air quality management in strategies to mitigate transboundary air pollution in Asia;
- Review the desirability and feasibility of a governmental meeting on urban air quality in Asia; and
- Discuss the mechanisms for improved coordination among regional programs and initiatives in delivering AQM-related assistance at the city level in Asia, including the scope for joint implementation of CAI-Asia Strategy 2005-2007 and Business Plan 2005-2006.
The meeting was used to present the 2005 Compendium of AQM programs and projects in Asia which was prepared by the CAI-Asia Secretariat.
This meeting is intended for representatives of various regional and international air quality programs and initiatives with AQM projects/activities in Asia (e.g., ADB, ARRPET, ASEAN - AWGESC, CAI-Asia, CATNet-Asia, Energy Foundation, GTZ, IAEA-RCA, IPIECA, ITDP, IUCN, Kitakyushu Initiative , PCFV, SACEP, SEA-UEMA, Sida-Bangkok Regional Office, Swisscontact, UNCRD, UNEP, UN-ESCAP, USAID/USAEP, USEPA, WB, WHO).
