Winrock International Nepal organized a talk program on: "Health Impacts of Indoor Air Pollution: Recent Global Burden of Disease Estimates and Ongoing Research in Nepal and Guatemala" By Prof. Kirk Smith, University of California, Berkeley, USA on June 7, 2005 from 3:00 - 5:30 PM at Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole, Lalitpur.
Prof. Kirk R. Smith is a Professor of Environmental Health Sciences and holds the Maxwell Endowed Chair in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He serves on a number of national and international scientific advisory and editorial boards and has published over 200 scientific articles and 7 books. Currently, his research focus is on outdoor and indoor air pollution, both in cities and in rural areas with a special but not exclusive interest on biomass fuel cycles. At present, he is conducting epidemiological studies in Guatemala and India on the health impacts of smoke from household use of solid fuels, a large source of exposure on a global scale.
