Creating Pedestrian Environment as a Strategy in Developing Livable Jakarta

Introduction

Transportation system in Jakarta have had a tendency to depend on car traffic more intensely through the vicious circle between road congestion and the decline of bus services. This article describes community initiatives in integrating non motorized transportation mode on urban transport s pedestrian environment as a part of long-term strategy in developing Jakarta become a livable city. In the short-term programs, pedestrian studies conducted on five local areas. Functions of the pedestrian study can be divided into two kinds, namely investigating pedestrian needs and proposing physical improvement design which is provide environment friendly for pedestrian accessibility pedestrian to the Local Government of Jakarta.
