In an effort to control and reduce vehicle emissions, Sri Lanka plans to put in place an island-wide vehicle emissions testing program. Towards this, characterizing the on-road emissions of the active vehicle fleet and establishing a baseline to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed vehicle emission testing program were necessary precursors. Therefore a survey was conducted to generate baseline information and a report on Remote Sensing of Vehicle Emissions in Sri Lanka presents the results of the study.
The study was carried out by Environmental Systems Products Inc. (ESP), USA together with the Sri Lankan partners, the Industrial Services Bureau (ISB) and Hayleys Limited. This effort was an intervention planned under the Sri Lanka Clean Air Action Plan 2007 sponsored by USAID s US-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP) Program and the USAID/Global Development Alliance (GDA).
