The Asian Development Bank (ADB) in cooperation with the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will host an international conference on the sustainable development of Asian cities and city regions. This is set to take place at ADB Headquarters in Manila.
The conference offers the opportunity to discuss and agree upon ways to support sustainable urban development and continue what has become a successful fight against poverty in many Asian cities. In today's cities and city regions, the opportunities and risks of globalisation and economic growth are closely interlinked. Investments in urban development worldwide transform these opportunities into benefits, directly contributing to the economy and enhancing social stability. It is a common consensus that these interventions are important for the reduction of poverty in cities and regions. Special attention will thus be given to the issue of better harmonisation of bilateral and international cooperation for Asia's urban future.
