Sustainable Urban Transport in Asia - Learning from Europe?
Workshop Concept for Asia-Europe Environment Forum Conference (ASEF) "1/3 of our Planet: What can Asia and Europe do for Sustainable Development?" (23-25 Nov 2005, Jakarta)

Asian cities are facing a rapid growth. Population is increasing and so are the disposable incomes in many of the cities. This has resulted in rapid motorization with motor vehicles and motorcycles growing explosively in most of the cities. This has negatively affected urban air quality and increased emissions of greenhouse gasses from the transport sector. Road safety has become a serious concern in many of these cities, and congestion has reached a point that it has serious economic impacts.
