IT companies change working hours to ease traffic congesition
Many IT and Biotech companies have decided to begin office hours from 0830 hrs instead of traditional 1000 hrs

IT and BT Companies in this Silicon City of India, in an atempt to ease traffic congesition in the City, have decided to advance their working hours with out waiting for Government to improve road infrastructure.

Many IT and Biotech companies have decided to begin office hours from 0830 hrs instead of traditional 1000 hrs as it had become common for late coming employees to attribute traffic jam as reason.

The decision to change the office hours was well received by both the employees and police.

Unable to restrict the rush of traffic due to surge in vehicular population during last five years, the City Police advise to Educational Institutions to change timing yielded desired results.

However, Police banning the parents to bring their wards in their vehicle and drop children at the schools initialy faced resistance before it was widely accepted.

Mr Shivaraj Patil, a senior officer in the transport department in Karnataka government has opined that by staggering of timings of dirrerent organisations including government, corporate offices, educational institutions and also factories the traffic can be regularised for the good of the public which would also helps for the optimum utilisation of the available infrastructure. It also helps to reduce the pollution, congestion and also inconvenience faced by the people.

According to official sources while the total vehicles registered in Karnataka state is over 49 lakh, in the State Capital Bangalore alone it was over 25 lakh. The boom in the IT and BT sector in the last eight to ten years had resulted into surge of vehicular traffic in the city which was resulted into heavy traffic jams, delays, fuel loss and also air pollution. Besides this over 30,000 vehicles were added into Bangalore city every month leading to additional burden on the part of the police who are responsible in regularising the traffic.

The City Police which woefully suffer from the shortage of staff, have already petitioned and sent proposal to the state government to allow recruitment of over 2000 traffic police constables which is yet to be accepted by the government.

With the corporate companies deciding to go for change in office timings in line with the educaional institutions would go a long way in finding solutions to the severe traffic problems faced in the city. Suresh, who works in a IT company at Electronic City said that while he workd for five hours in the company he was forced to spend over six hours in the city's jamemd traffic speaks the volume of the problem.
