As part of the BASIC Project we are holding a series of workshops and related activities in Beijing, China on 17th - 18th February, 2006. The full agenda can be found on the BASIC website: http://www.basic-project.net/
If you are interested in attending, please get in touch with the organizers listed in the Beijing Workshop Agenda.
A limited amount of funding is available to assist with travel/accommodation costs with priority given to individuals based in developing countries. For further details, send a short letter and one page resume explaining how your attendance can contribute to the objectives of the Beijing Workshop and future BASIC activities.
The three main events are:
- BASIC Workshop on "Linking Climate Mitigation Policy and Modelling in China." The full day workshop will examine the state of energy and economic modelling in China and the policy implications of incorporating climate mitigation policies in China’s economic and social development. The workshop will provide an opportunity for Chinese modellers and climate policy experts to engage with international experts, including those participating in the IPCC WG III Lead Authors meeting in Beijing. It will also launch a longer term network of organizations and individuals interested in future collaborative work on modelling and climate policy in China.
- BASIC workshop on "International Climate Policy Post 2012: Quantitative Tools & Negotiating Capacity." This half day workshop will provide an introduction and ‘hands-on’ experience with some of the models currently being used to quantify the economic and other implications of different international climate policy regimes post 2012. The following models will be covered: CAIT tool developed by WRI, the EVOC model developed by Ecofys & the FAIR model developed by MNP/RIVM.
- CCLaw Assist Workshop on "China and the Clean Development Mechanism: Emerging Legal & Institutional Issues." This workshop will focus on implementation and evolution of CDM in China including contractual issues relating to CDM projects and wider recent regulatory developments such as renewable energy laws.
