The vision of the CleanAirSL is that "every one of us has clean air to breath"

Central to this vision, the mission of the CleanAirSL is "integration of environmental, social and cultural concerns into the development process and the establishment of transparent and participatory decision-making and enforcement processes by people for the improvement of air quality for the benefit of present and future generations"

CleanAirSL identifies its beneficiaries as People of Sri Lanka, Global community, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, NGOs, Private and business sector, Academic Institutions, General Public and International Agencies.

(a) To ensure that all people living in this country has the right to clean air for their health and well being;
(b) To pursue sustainable development policies and to that end integrate environmental and cultural concerns into the development process;
(c) Assisting Air Resource Management Center (AirMAC) at all level of their activities
(d) Assisting government agencies for the implementation of air quality programs and climate change mitigation programs
(e) Development and smooth function of an effective coordination mechanism for air quality management
(f) Integration of air pollution abatement programmes implemented in the island
(g) Developing and implementing public sensitization programmes
(h) Institutional strengthening and capacity building for air quality management
(i) Development of policies and programs for air quality management.
(j) Harnessing of resource for air resource management
(k) Establishment of Air Resource Information Network for collection and dimensions of air quality documents
(l) Promotion and facilitation of air quality research, with a view to ensuring of clean and safe air for the health and well-being of the people.
(m) Development of clean energy
(n) Promoting renewable energy
(o) Prevention of indoor air pollution
(p) Vehicle emission control programs
(q) Promoting sustainable transport activities
(r) Preparing emissions inventories including green house gas inventory
(s) Providing advisory services for all air quality management related activities.

The membership of CleanAirSL shall consist of three types, i.e. ordinary, institutional, distinguished membership and international membership
Ordinary members - Citizens and/or residents of Sri Lanka may be ordinary members, if they fall under any of the following requirements provided that they possess minimum educational qualifications acceptable to the society.

a) Graduates of any recognised university
b) Persons possessing any equivalent qualification acceptable to the society.
c) Persons actively associated with any programmes or activities in the field of air quality management

  • Associate Members Those who will be eligible to become ordinary members in the future, e.g. Students
  • Institutional members - Any public or private sector agency,
    NGO or society, if they satisfy the following requirements:-
  • That they have been actively associated and involved in activities that promote the air quality improvement and management at national, regional and global level.
  • Distinguished Members - Distinguished membership shall be conferred by the Board of Directors on any person who has distinguished himself in the field of air quality management and/or whose expertise has contributed to the objectives of the CleanAirSL.
  • International members - International membership shall be conferred by the Board of Directors on any international person who has experience in the field of air quality management and/or whose expertise has contributed to the objectives of the CleanAirSL

The application for membership shall be made in writing in the prescribed form and shall be submitted to the CleanAirSL’s secretariat.

The date of admission to the CleanAirSL shall be the date of approval by the Board of Directors subject to the applicant’s payment of membership-fees.

The decision of the Board of Directors on matters of membership shall be considered final and they shall not be subject to explanation.
