Air pollution from mobile, stationary, and area sources is a serious problem in Viet Nam. Rapid urbanization, increasing motorization, and industrialization are responsible for air pollution in Viet Nam. The Government of Viet Nam has adopted policies and undertaken programs to address air pollution especially from motor vehicles and industrial sources, and to strengthen its air quality management capability. In addition, several sectors including bilateral and multilateral development organizations have undertaken and continue to undertake projects supporting government’s efforts to improve air quality in Viet Nam; this includes the integration of air quality concerns in transport, energy and urban development projects. We believe that stronger and better coordination of these efforts can help to achieve better air quality in Viet Nam by strengthening the synergy between our individual efforts. For this reason, DOE/MONRE and CAI-Asia have decided to jointly organize the first Development Partners Coordination Meeting on Clean Air in Viet Nam.
The objectives of the meeting are: (i) to present and share the government’s program on urban air quality management; (ii) to facilitate a discussion between government and its main development partners on its main policies on air quality management; (iii) to take stock of current and planned air quality management programs or projects, and (iv) to identify emerging issues in air quality management and their strategic policy and investment implications.
