Second Consultation Draft: Roadmaps for Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles in Asia
The second consultation draft of the report: "Roadmaps for Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles in Asia" is now available for comments. This second consultation draft includes a new chapter 4 which presents the results of a supplemental analysis on the use of octane enhancing additives in gasoline. We request that comments are submitted before January 10, 2008 by email to au.ables@cai-asia.org with cc. to cornie.huizenga@cai-asia.org. Upon receipt of the comments the report will be finalized and edited.
Responses to First Consultation Draft
Reactions to the initial comments matrix as posted on the CAI-Asia website show that inclusion of Appendix 2 without any countervailing views leaves the inaccurate impression that the material in Appendix 2 represents the scientific consensus on the use of MMT as a fuel additive. In the interest of presenting a more balanced perspective on this important topic, we have added Appendix 6, the information of which was provided by one the study’s authors. Appendix 6 gives an initial overview of additional information; this to show that there is an active scientific debate on the subject. More >>
The Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) and representatives from the Oil Industry had agreed to conduct a dialogue to contribute towards the improvement of urban air quality in Asia in July 2003 in Singapore. This agreement was concretized in the "Singapore Statement" as agreed by both parties. As an input to the Dialogue process, CAI-Asia and international experts have developed a document which can guide decision-makers and other stakeholders in establishing the use of cleaner fuels in Asia.
This workshop will gather representatives from the oil industry, vehicle manufacturers, Asian governments, and development institutions to discuss how Asian countries should move forward in developing their fuel quality roadmaps.
The study will also be an input into the first Governmental Meeting on Urban Air Quality, which CAI-Asia will co-host with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and the Ministry of Environment in Indonesia in September 2006.
