Ambient air quality monitoring in several major cities in Indonesia shows that the urban people can breathe the air in good category only for 2 months in a year. Several pollution parameters have exceeded the threshold of ambient air quality standard, especially parameters such as NOx, SOx, PM10 and O3. Consequently those conditions are potentially creating various diseases that suffered by it citizen, especially respiratory disease, hypertension, kidney failure, coronary disease and even premature death.
The authority for conducting fuel quality monitoring beside mandated by The Oil and Gas Directorate, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, is also mandated under the Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 1 Year 2005 regarding Organizational and Working Procedure of the Ministry of Environment. The Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the Joint Committee for Leaded Gasoline Phase-Out (KPBB) conducted the fuel quality monitoring on regular gasoline and diesel fuel from public gas station in 20 cities with the objective to provide information to the public.
