This January, during the week of the Transportation Research Board's 96th Annual TRB Meeting, EMBARQ hosted its fourth Transforming Transportation, a week-long set of discussions and workshops on some of the most important developments in transportation.
The week started with an all-day session Sunday January 21 at TRB focused on our work in Latin America and Istanbul. The latter session allowed us to introduce for the first time our growing partnership with Istanbul and the recent work we sponsored there on emissions from motor vehicles.
The climax of the week was a two day event co-hosted with the World Bank at the World Resources Institute on January 25th and the World Bank on January 26th, was close to standing room only for its two day duration. What engaged the participants was the focus on sustainable institutions themselves what creates the right management of sustainable transport itself. The first day heard from experts by region and country, who highlighted important contrasts between national and local initiatives, well managed development and chaos on the streets and sidewalks, good and bad outcomes. The following day we examined cross cutting issues, particularly those of local governance and financing.
EMBARQ and the World Bank thank the Shell Foundation, the Caterpillar Foundation, and the Hewlett Foundation for financial support. We also acknowledge the hospitality and logistical help from the US Transportation Research Board for once again hosting workshops as part of their annual meeting.
