Analysis and characterization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were conducted in an industrial and school areas in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. Airborne particles samples were collected using High Volume Air Sampler (HVAS). From the analyses, the highest concentration of PAHs which is 1342.87 µg/g dry weight on air particle samples was found in oil palm industry which represent an industrial areas. In the other industry area (paddy industry), the concentration value obtained is only 50.86 µg/g dry weight. The highest concentrations of PAHs on air particle samples obtained in representing school areas was 39603.5 µg/g dry weight and 2214.719 µg/g dry weight respectively. In contrast, the maximum and minimum concentrations of PAHs was 2214.390 and 43.592 µg/g dry weight respectively were recorded in industrial areas. The results obtained from this study shows that school areas which located nearby the busy road are the most contaminated place with PAHs compounds compared to an industrial areas.
