Abstract:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (U.S.EPA) innovative Integrated Environmental Strategies (IES) Program engages developing countries to build support for integrated planning to address both global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and local environmental concerns. The Program promotes the analysis and local support for implementation of policy measures with multiple public-health, economic and environmental benefits. To date, government agencies and research institutions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Mexico, the Philippines and South Korea have participated in the IES program. This presentation will focus on co-benefits analysis methodologies used by the IES Program, including its international partners. The session will also highlight the importance and value to local, national, and regional policymakers of considering cost-effective and feasible options for the simultaneous reduction of local air pollutants and GHGs. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is a consultant to U.S. EPA’s IES Program.
