The LowCVP and the Energy Institute are collaborating in a one-day event to discuss the latest thinking on the prospects for introducing a carbon emissions trading system to the road transport sector. LowCVP members receive a £100 (35%) discount on the full delegate fee for the event.
The European Council has recently agreed to a UK Government proposal to consider including road transport in the EU's Emissions Trading Scheme. This event will provide an early opportunity for delegates to hear about, and discuss, the Government's views on the prospects for incorporating road transport into the EU ETS and other potential options for introducing a market-based carbon trading system to the sector.
Confirmed speakers so far include Niall Mackenzie (Head of Defra's EU Emissions Trading Unit), Michael Hurwitz (Head of Environment Programme Delivery, Department for Transport), Bettina Kampman (CE Delft), Tim Yeo MP (Chair of Environmental Audit Committee), Simon Retallack (ippr), Simon Barnes (SMMT), Kirsty Clough (WWF). There will also be a speaker from the UK petroleum industry and a specialist carbon trading organisation. Greg Archer, the LowCVP Director, will chair the event, which will feature two panel sessions to facilitate debate and feedback. (See draft agenda below.)
