Message from Mr. Gopal Raj Joshi:
By education and profession, I am environmentalist, working as a program coordinator for Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) for the past six months. Prior to this, I had worked as a program officer for CEN for the past 3 years. I have completed Master’s degree in Environmental Management.
Clean Energy Nepal, secretariat of Clean Air Network Nepal, is a national non-governmental organization involved in research-based advocacy and awareness campaign on issues of clean air, climate change and energy. Being part of this organization, I am responsible to plan, design and conduct research on various issues related to air quality management. Some of the past researches in which I was involved include health impacts of air pollution, survey on public transportation and brick kiln industries and policy guidelines on AQM. I was a key team member of "Clean Air Campaign 2004, 2005 and 2006" implemented by CEN in collaboration with various organizations such as Kathmandu Electric Vehicle Alliance and Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Under these programs, I was responsible for the awareness raising and capacity build up component which included school and college level programs, journalist training, development of IEC materials and booklets. Besides this, I produced an environmental radio program for two years which was aired through Metro FM station owned by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Being a part of various research, awareness and advocacy campaigns, I have been acquainted with clean air issues in Nepal. Clean air and climate change are my areas of interest at present and will remain the same in the future also. In conclusion, I am fully confident that I can contribute to the clean air movement in Nepal through CANN with the help of all the relevant stakeholders.
