Abstract:
Since 1970 air pollution in Indonesia started to increase, because industries started to improve. Aerosol is the one air pollution which has high concentration. To find out about aerosol condition and its characteristic over Indonesia will be analyzed the aerosol index data from TOMS (Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer) satellite in period 1979 – 2005. The aerosol index over Indonesia in period 1979 – 2005 has increasing tendency, the equation trend is Y= 0.0107X + 2.337. The monthly average, maximum and minimum value respectively are 4.04; 9; 1.69. In El Nino year the aerosol index value increase and in La Nina year the aerosol index value decrease. In rainy season and dry season the aerosol index value is low. In transition period from rainy season to dry season water droplets have role to increase the aerosol index value, in transition period from dry season to rainy season forest fire and dry condition which cause there is any washing out / rain out of aerosol process will increase the aerosol index value. The aerosols index over Indonesia 1979 – 2005 show those Indonesia regions which have potential forest fire have high aerosol index value, but not as high as in El Nino year 1997. In neutral condition Indonesia regions which have potential forest fire have low aerosol index value. In El Nino years Indonesia regions which have potential forest fire have high aerosol index value.
