Approved by the State Council, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and State Environmental Protection Administration will take the lead to develop a Chinese Environmental Macro-Strategy Study aiming to deeply explore and identify strategic guidelines, priorities and measures on environmental protection of China. The Study was formally launched in Beijing on May 11 2007. The Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan gave a speech at the startup ceremony,
Zeng indicated that the implementation of this project is a key action toward building a resources-saving and environmentally-friendly society and is significant for the work of energy conservation and emission reduction.
Zeng required the project team to explore and summarize the internal relationship and objective laws between economic development and environmental protection, and give priorities to (i) regional environmental capacity, (ii) environmentally-friendly policies of technology and industry, (iii) institutionalized system on strengthening environmental protection and response to climate change while sincerely absorbing internal and external experiences and lessons, and (iv) closely tracking the new outputs of environmental study and technology innovation in the world. Zeng expects the Study to be a useful reference to China’s environmental protection work.
According to Zeng, the project team consists of the members in the ChineseAcademy of Science and CAE, known experts and scholars, and other talents in environment, science and technology, and law.
