An Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG) was tasked by the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to examine the linkages between climate change and air quality pollutants and their potential mitigation policies. AQEG was tasked to examine the scientific background to these interactions and to identify synergies, where measures to improve air quality can help to ameliorate climate change, and trade-offs where policy measures in the two areas act in opposition. The report specifically discusses the following: impact of air quality on climate change; impact of climate change on air quality; impact of climate change policies on air quality and vice versa and future research requirements.
