Formulation of the CAI-Asia Partnership Strategy

Stakeholders were invited to submit ideas and concepts for the CAI-Asia Partnership Strategy. The Partnership Strategy guides individual Partnership members in the planning of their air quality related activities. At the same time the CAI-Asia Partnership Strategy is an important document as it will guide the activities of the CAI-Asia Center over the next years.

The Strategy will be reviewed every two years to ensure it is a "living" and not a "static" document.

Document history:

  • Submission of ideas and concepts through the CAI-Asia Listserv or by email to Cornie Huizenga ( chuizenga (at) adb (dot) org ): began 28 May 2007
  • Initial scoping of strategy and posting on CAI-Asia website: 27 June 2007
  • Circulation of first draft Strategy: 6 July 2007
  • Circulation second draft Strategy: 18 July 2007
  • Discusison of Strategy by CAI-Asia Partnership Council: 23 July 2007

The following outputs are planned for the CAI-Asia Partnership for the period 2007-2010:

  1. Improvement in the awareness among stakeholders on the need for and feasibility of strengthening of urban AQM in Asia;
  2. Ambient air quality standards, emission standards and well-articulated AQM policies at national and local level for the prevention and control of mobile, stationary and area sources of air pollution have been formulated and are increasingly adopted and successfully implemented;
  3. Well-established capacity to manage urban air quality in Asia has been developed among relevant stakeholders in Asia which includes trained manpower, monitoring equipment, and adequate operational budgets for urban AQM; and
  4. Financing models for urban AQM in Asia developed and mobilization of adequate financial resources has resulted in improved financial sustainability of urban AQM in Asia.
