We are pleased to announce that 38 Sri Lankan competitors have been selected among 92 short listed entries at the first round of this international competition. Overall winner and three other Second and Third places were won by Sri Lanka in this international Art Competition. The overall winner was Asanga Indunil Weerasekara from Sri Lanka and he has received an all expense paid trip to the BAQ 2006 conference in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and a cash prize of US$500.
Prize Giving Ceremony was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Bio Diversity Division, Air Resource Management Centre with Clean Air Sri Lanka to hand over the certificates and the cash prizes for other Sri Lankan winners of Art of Air competition on World Bio Diversity Day 22nd May 2007. Winners received their prizes from Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources at the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) Auditorium in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.
Other distinguished guests present at this occasion were Mr. M.S. Sellasame, Deputy Minister, Postal and Telecommunication, W.M. Piyasena, Secretary Postal and Telecommunication, Mr. M. A. R. D. Jayatilaka, Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. W. R. M. S. Wickramasinghe, Mr. M. Sumanadasa, Mr. W. M. Wijesooriya, Additional Secretaries, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Gamini Gamage, Director, Bio Diversity division, Mr. Anura Jayatilaka, Director, AirMAC, Environmental Economics & Global Affairs division & General Secretary, Clean Air Sri Lanka, Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni, President Clean Air Sri Lanka & Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, Colombo Municipal Council and official of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Function commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the distinguish guests and participants in front of a large gathering of the school children, teachers and parents. "Parisara song" was sung by the School Children.
