Thamel to restrict vehicles on tourism day
No public vehicle will be allowed inside the Thamel area from September 27, the World Tourism Day. The 'no entry' rule will, however, not apply to ambulance, tourist bus, and diplomatic vehicles.

No public vehicle will be allowed inside the Thamel area from September 27, the World Tourism Day. The 'no entry' rule will, however, not apply to ambulance, tourist bus, and diplomatic vehicles.

President of TTDC Namgyel Lama said the steps have been taken to clean up Thamel both physically and socially.

There are a lot of hawkers selling drugs and women carrying babies ask for money from tourists and the vehicles on the narrow roads make commuting almost impossible, he said. "Even the sprouting dance restaurants and massage parlours and the rowdy night life have given Thamel a bad name," he added.
