Study reveals increasing climate divide between Europe's carmakers
Figures obtained from official EU monitoring data

The CAI-Asia Center is helping the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) disseminate its press release regarding a new study of major automakers and their impact on climate change.

The report "Reducing CO2 Emissions from New Cars: A Study of Major Car Manufacturers' Progress in 2006" is available online at http://www.transportenvironment.org

CAI-Asia is an active supporter of the co-benefits approach to climate change mitigation, whereby measures to address urban air pollution (e.g., vehicle emission standards) also help to address climate change. Although the cars covered in the study are produced in Europe, the United States, and Japan, most of them also ply the roads of developing Asian countries. According to Cornie Huizenga, the Executive Director of the CAI-Asia Center, "Asian countries have the possibility to benefit from the efforts made in other parts of the world to clean up vehicles. Adopting stricter GHG emission standards will help Asian countries to reduce their fuel import bill while at the same time helping the environment."
