Vietnam Clean Air Partnership (VCAP) Executive Meeting
By Nguyen Hoang Yen, VCAP

The Meeting was conducted on 29 December 2007 in Khoang Xanh, Ha Tay province. Prof.DrSc. Pham Ngoc Dang, VCAP President, presented a Report on VCAP 2007 activities and 2008 work plan. In the second half of 2007, under the sponsor of the Swiss-Vietnamese Clean Air Program (SVCAP), VCAP had a fulltime executive staff and corresponding facilities to serve its activities, therefore communication and information among members were regularly maintained and some activities effectively conducted.

The main activities that have been successfully implemented are: participation in the development and giving consultancy to some projects at the national as well as provincial levels; carrying out AQM information disseminating through CAI-Asia and VACNE (Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment) websites; reinforcing and enhancing relations with many NGOs inside the country and abroad as well as with many governmental agencies. Especially, VCAP has maintained a good relationship and received valuable assistance from CAI-Asia Center, SVCAP, VACNE, VEPA (Vietnam Environment Protection
Agency), and DOE (Department for Environment at MONRE). Initially, VCAP has reinforced its position inside and outside the country and has promoted relation among its members. Among challenges that have been recognized for VCAP there are lack of ability to ensure stable and long-time activities; lack of long-term projects to enable VCAP to give appropriate contributions to the society and to ensure finance for activities.

Delegates discussed and gave many comments to the VCAP annual report. Some governmental agencies delegates gave commitments for closer cooperation with VCAP; Middle Vietnam delegates called for more VCAP support to air protection activities in the Middle of Vietnam.
