The project will hold a policy consultation workshop on 25-26 March 2008 at the Duxton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
The objectives of this workshop are to:
- describe the study and present results of the different components;
- describe lessons learned by the local HCMC collaborators who took part in conducting study;
- review the study methodology to assess possible replication in other cities/countries in Asia;
- discuss policies for HCMC and Viet Nam, which are proposed in the draft Policy report of component 3, that will reflect linkages of air pollution, poverty and health.
The workshop will contribute towards a report which:
- describes the policy implications of the study for Viet Nam and Ho Chi Minh City;
- identifies the future research opportunities for Viet Nam in these related fields/themes;
- identifies the criteria for selecting cities/countries where the project may be replicated;
- proposes ways to improve study design and methodology.
The workshop will be organized by project partners:
- Health Effects Institute (HEI), Department of Health (DOH)-HCMC, Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) and the HCMC Environmental Protection Agency (HEPA) with support from:
- Asian Development Bank; Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the UNDP-MONRE Poverty Environment Project (PEP)
The targeted participants of the workshop are:
- representatives from HCM, other cities and national government, academe, involved in formulation and implementation of policies that relate to the following sectors – air pollution, environment, transport, industry, health, poverty, urban planning and socio-economic development;
- international development agencies with programmes that relate to air quality, poverty and health;
- representatives from Asian countries interested in replicating the methodology of the APPH study; and
- other stakeholders from media, private sector and NGOs.
