Organised by GTZ-SUTP in cooperation with Interface for Cycling Enterprise (I-Ce) and other partners, this Non-motorised Transport (NMT) Training course is the first specialised training course for Indian future trainers, under the Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asia (SUMA) capacity building component. The training course held on April 10-16, 2008 at the India Habitat Center in New Delhi, India.
The course was primarily developed for the pre-selected future trainers who expressed their interest in NMT, during the Initial course held in Beijing on November 2007. Apart from the future trainers, a transport ministry official from Indonesia and a colleague from EMBARQ joined the participants during the whole course.
The course included four days of training and two days of participation in a workshop organised by I-Ce along with the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. This workshop was focussed on getting information from various Indian cities, in regard to the non-motorised transport condition and the ongoing improvements in this area.
The training course was conducted by trainers from I-Ce and GTZ. There was also active discussion from the participants in regards to the NMT condition in the Indian cities. The participants also underwent various exercises on planning and design for NMT facilities in a typical Indian context . The participants of the course also had the chance to take part in a bicycle rally conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The rally was conducted on the bicycle lanes designed on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor.
