Drunk driving cases account for more than 10% of the country’s traffic accidents which kill around 12,000 people a year, show a recent survey.
The National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) in cooperation with the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted the survey to raise the society’s awareness about the rising danger of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The results of the survey will contribute to the development of a national action plan for preventing drunk driving.
Nguyen Van Tien, deputy chairman of the National Assembly’s Social Committee, said a law should be needed to control and prevent bad impacts of drinking. If the law is issued, it can help reduce traffic accidents, he said.
