Clean Air Training Network for Asia (CATNet-Asia) was established as part of CAI-Asia to be a regional network of government organizations and institutions involved in Air Quality Management (AQM) Training. CAI-Asia's mission is to promote and to demonstrate innovation ways to improve air quality of Asian Cities through partnerships and sharing experiences among relevant stakeholders from government, private sector and civil society as well as international development agencies and NGOs. Therefore, CATNet-Asia is an important component of CAI-Asia to strengthen capacities for effective air quality management. The regional cooperation engendered by CATNet-Asia will facilitate better and more abundant AQM trainings.
CATNet-Asia was formed during the Stakeholder Workshop on Asia Regional Air Quality Training Consortium, held in Manila (28-31 May 2002), and formally lauched in Hong Kong later that year (December 2002). Since then, CATNet-Asia has organized annual planning meeting every year in conjunction with Better Air Quality, which is the Asia Regional Conference organized by CAI-Asia. Participants of CATNet-Asia Meeting are representatives from members of CAI-Asia, including government agencies, academic institutes and private organizations.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has been providing grant support to CATNet-Asia for the past three years (2003 – 2005).
