SUMA has engaged the expertise of Dr. Christopher Cherry, Dr. Jonathan Weinert, and Dr. Marie Thynell to investigate (1) electric bikes and (2) social impacts of SUT.
Involvement in SUMA
Dr. Cherry and Dr. Weinert will investigate the "Environmental Impacts of Electric Bikes." Their study includes (1) identification of energy use and emissions (air, solid, water) of the electric bike lifecycle; (2) comparative analysis of life cycle environmental impacts of electric bikes with alternative modes; (3) influence of electric bikes on motorization pathways; and (4) battery technology development.
Dr. Thynell will investigate the social impacts of SUT. She will develop (1) Social Impact Assessment Guidelines for Urban Transportation; (2) a methodology to implement these guidelines on pilot projects; and (3) a report on the application of the guidelines on a selected city.
