Urban Transport Project (Uzbekistan)
The Urban Transport Project for Uzbekistan aims to develop efficient and sustainable urban passenger transport services in Samarkand, Namangan, Bukhara, Nukus, and Almalyk. There are five main project components. They comprise 1) provision of new buses and the establishment of a commercial leasing scheme for their allocation to competent private and state-owned operators on the basis of full cost recovery; 2) rehabilitation and repair of existing buses; 3) strengthening of urban transport operators by providing technical assistance, training, and office and workshop equipment; 4) improvements in the institutional, financial, and regulatory framework for urban transport services by providing technical assistance, training, and office equipment; and 5) support to the project implementation unit in project management and procurement by providing technical assistance, training, office equipment, and funding of its incremental operating costs.
