There are a number of technical options and fuels available which have the potential to reduce the environmental impacts of existing trucks. This section of the Info Pool outlines these options by focusing on:

• Inspection and maintenance programs to identify trucks needing repair.
  
• Replacement programs that replace or or repower the existing truck engine with a new engine to meet lower emissions standards.
  
• Retrofit systems that upgrade existing conventional diesel trucks with advanced technological equipment, in many cases in conjunction with low sulfur fuels.
  
• Truck conversions refer to original diesel buses being converted to the use of alternative fuels, in most cases CNG or LPG.
