Cleaner fuels

The fuels described in the Info Pool are listed below:

  • Cleaner Diesel can reduce emissions from existing diesel vehicles and some parameters such as low sulfur are required to enable an effective operation of advanced emission control devices.
  • Cleaner Gasoline can refer to lead-free, sulfur-free, or reformulated gasoline (RFG).
  • CNG is short for compressed natural gas and consists mainly of methane.
  • LPG stands for liquefied petroleum gas (which is mostly propane) and has comparable qualities to CNG.
  • Ethanol is made from fermented carbohydrates and is thus a renewable resource.
  • Hydrogen can be burned directly or used in fuel cells. It can be produced through a variety of means.
  • Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils, using for example rapeseed or sunflowers.
